This report is based on an English to Chinese translating practice of Protecting the Future: HIV Prevention,Care, and Support Among Displaced and War-Affected Populations, which was written by Wendy Holmes and published by Kumarian Press(the United States)in 2003.This book has four parts, and incorporates practicality, readability and operability. To a certain extent, this book can serve as a reference for the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS,and train the health care workers in basic medical institutions in China.Translation practice is based on the first part(this part mainly explains the basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS and its prevention and control, and has a strong universal applicability for health care workers)of the source text, and this translation report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is a brief introduction about the translation material, the translation process, and the purpose of the report. The author analyzes the selected translation material from perspectives of internal and external aspects under the guidance of Geoffrey Leech's stylistic analysis theory in the second chapter. The external text analysis is about the historical background of the source text.According to Leech's theory, the internal text analysis is carried out from lexical categories, grammatical categories, figures of speech, and context and cohesion. The third chapter is a description of the stylistic features of this translation material under Leech's theory. At the lexical level, derivatives, polysemous terms and abbreviations are preferred in the source text.At the grammatical level, passive sentences and complex sentences are frequently used.At the level of figures of speech, antithesis and parallelism are preferred. At the level of context and cohesion, charts, questions and answers, and images are preferred and the internal logic of the source text is clear. The fourth chapter is case analysis.According to the author's understanding of stylistic analysis theory, the author deals with the typical cases in the translated version from the level of lexical categories, grammatical categories, figures of speech, and context and cohesion to illustrate the selected translation methods, and analyzes how those methods influence the quality of the translated version. The fifth chapter is a summary of the translation experience that gained during the translation process. The author finds that when translating medical texts by means of Leech's stylistic analysis theory to analyze the translation material is of great importance. In addition, there are some good methods to ensure the quality of translation, like storing the corresponding background knowledge, and flexibly using addition, omission, division, and combination.
