Study On Ye Shi's Historical Comments

Ye Shi's(??)idea of Chun-Qiu(????)was constructed by criticizing various interpretations of Chun-Qiu.Ye Shi criticized Mencius and others because they overrated the status of Chun-Qiu and he was also dissatisfied with the way that the Gong-Yang(??)School and the Gu-Liang(??)school imparted and interpreted Chun-Qiu.However,Ye Shi highly praised Zuo-Zhuan(????).He advocated understanding Zuo-Zhuan by Du Yu's(??)Commentaries on Chun-Qiu Zuo-Zhuan(????????)because of Du Yu's intensive study on Zuo-Zhuan,but he also criticized Du Yu's viewpoints in the preface of Commentaries on Chun-Qiu Zuo-Zhuan.Based on the criticism,Ye Shi put forward his idea of Chun-Qiu,which included two points.One is that he discussed Chun-Qiu's main point from the macro instead of the micro.The other is Ye Shi supposed that the writing methods of Chun-Qiu were mainly the old historical writing methods,and this viewpoint was founded on the facts accounted by Zuo-Zhuan.In addition,Ye Shi also regarded honouring the king and driving off the barbarians as the subject of Chun-Qiu.He explained his own concept of honouring the king and driving off the barbarians which was originated from his comments of Chunqiu history.In a word,the ideas that Ye Shi put forward about Chun-Qiu were against the idea that the confucians in Song dynasty worshipped Chun-Qiu and interpretated Chun-Qiu with Li(?).This idea was similar to that of Chen Fuliang and Zhu Xi.From Ye Shi's ideas of Chun-Qiu,it can be seen that Ye Shi's historical comments had the characteristics of combining facts with Yi Li(??).
