A Study Of The Relations Between The Hui And Han In Xihaigu Region During The Late Qing Dynasty And The Republic Of China

The research of ethnic relations is an important area of national history,it has important significance in formulating today's social stability and development of ethnic regions.Xihaigu region is a relatively remote mixed-area of Hui and Han.Since the period of late Qing dynasty and the Republic of China,due to some reasons,such as materials,few scholars can study the relationship problems between Hui and Han systematically.Basing on the perspective of modernization,from the political,economic,cultural,religious and other aspects,to reveal the specific historical condition of the development of Hui and Han relations during the late Qing dynasty and the Republic of China in Xihaigu region.In the early of Qing dynasty,government's policy for Hui nationality is not very strict.However,the governments strengthen the control for Hui nationality after the Su Sishisan insurrection in Qianlong period,to take strict precautions against the internal factional struggle and large-scale armed fights.The Northwest Hui uprising caused serious influence on the relationship between Hui and Han in Xihaigu Region in Tongzhi period.Zuo Zongtang coped with the problems from political,economic,cultural,etc.when he suppressed the revolt.The relationship between Hui and Han has been greatly eased,But there are still some destabilizing factors.During the period of the Republic of China,the central government's policy for Hui nationality in different stages was not consistent.But on the whole to protect the Hui nationality and the policy is also more tolerant.In this big historical context,the relationship between the Han and Hui nationality has also been ease of Xihaigu Region;meanwhile,economic,cultural and other fields have also witnessed greater development.In addition,great changes have taken place inside the Hui nationality.Ikhwani has been spread in Xihaigu Region,and the Religious elites support the development of society,so that the relationship between Hui and Han was harmonious and stable.
