Academic translation plays a very important role in the increasing international exchanges in academia.Simple language and logical thinking are the two distinct features of academic monographs.The information should be conveyed accurately during the translation of academic monograph.Translator's subjectivity refers to translator's subjective initiative.Translators should how their respect for the translation object,and try to achieve a specific goal during the translation process.Literary translation expects translator's conscious artistic creation,however,in non-literary translation(e.g.academic monographs translation),translator's subjectivity refers to the control of the whole translation process and the result.To achieve simple and effective communication,translators need to break the limitation of their first language,try to think differently,and to find out the accurate information source texts want to express.Based on the author's practice in translating the academic monograph A Study of University Learners' Identity in the Exchange Network—A Case Study of English Majors,this report aims to examine the translator's subjectivity in academic monographs translation(Chinese to English).Through comparatively analyzing the source text and the target text,the author proposes that during academic monographs translation,on the basis of full respect for the original,translators can show their subjectivity by critical reading,changing their ways of thinking and regularly communicating with the author.The author hopes that this report can provide reference and inspiration for other translators in this field.
