E-C Translation Of Terminologies In Water Resources Management

This paper is selected from the second and the third chapter of Water Resource Management as an analysis object.Reading and translating the material can help readers understand the German water management methods and provide reference to perfect our country’s water resources management.The most distinctive characteristic of the book is the use of comprehensive and interdisciplinary terminology;therefore,how to translate the terminology properly becomes the most difficult task to tackle.Because different scholars have different opinions on the definition of terminology,the translator firstly determines a definition of the terminology.According to its definition,the translator divides the terminology into three categories: physical terminology,chemical terminology,and management terminology;Secondly,the translator classifies the terminology in the material into groups including highly technical terminology,general technical terminology,and sub-technical technical terminology.Based on its definition and classification,the translator proposes the following three principles of terminology translation: accurate principle,terminology principle,contextual principle;finally,the translator summarizes three translation methods of terminology.The article summarizes the approach to deal with the terminology in the material through the discussion of terminology translation.The thesis,according to the definition,adopts different methods to deal with the classified terminology in the source text.Highly technical terms with a specific allegation,but in a single discipline,are translated with corresponding method under the guidance of accurate principles;general terminologies in the disciplines,which can be used in multiple disciplines with specific allegations,are adopted conversing method on the basis of the contextual principle;sub-technical terminologies,referring to common words with specialized meaning in a particular subject,can be translated with compensating method under the guidance of terminology principle.Nevertheless,there is no exact correspondence between these three principles and methods.The best method is considered into the terminology translation according to the principles.
