This translation project is the second chapter of an academic monograph of cognitive poetics entitled Multimodality,Cognition and Experimental Literature. It introduces the research foundation of cognitive poetics. It is well known that learning academic monograph is an important means for cultural and academic exchanges as well as learning advanced ideas from foreign countries. Therefore, its translation is of practical significance and academic value.Compared with common English articles, academic monographs, besides demonstrating distinctive professional features, are exact in wording, precise in sentence structure, serious in style and rigorous in logic.Taking this academic monograph as an example, this report tries to explore corresponding translation strategies for this type of text.Drawing on the theory of translation aesthetics on my own translation practices, this thesis summarizes four aesthetic translation principles, which are the beauty in accuracy, norms, concision and smoothness,to deal with the problems in academic monograph.Placing an emphasis on the aesthetic subject and object, translation aesthetics insists that translation be actually the process of aesthetic activity, which converts one language into another properly.According to this theory, the author generalizes its basic concept that beauty should exist in content, expressions, structure and words.More importantly, readers should enjoy the translation when they are reading. On the basis of these four principles, the author tries to achieve a good translation with accurate terms, professional expression, concise sentences and logical connection. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter describes the preparations for translation. The second chapter are the summary of translation aesthetics and the introduction of four translation principles. The third chapter makes an analysis of selected translation examples from the perspectives of translation aesthetics and the last chapter is the summary of the whole report.Through this translation report, the author hopes that these translation principles are conducive to the translation of academic monograph.Meanwhile, the author expects the Chinese version of this monograph to promote the progress of domestic research on multimodal cognitive poetics.
