Corruption Of Capital On Culture:A Study On The Truman Show

The Truman Show tells that Truman is the hero of a reality TV show.His life is manipulated and completely exposed to the people of the world without self perception.In the end,he resolutely resisted and escaped that world.The Truman Show reveals to the audience the tendency of capital's corruption on culture in TV programs.The discussion of reality and hypocrisy,the controlling and resistance of human nature,the presentation of media age manipulation and surveillance are full of the various parts of the film,allowing spectators to rethink their own life and examine their own position from a new perspective.The thesis is arguing the corruption of capital on culture in the film The Truman Show based on the Fredric Jameson's postmodern cultural theory.The thesis consists of three parts: an introduction,a main body and a conclusion.The introduction part mainly introduces domestic and foreign scholars' researches on The Truman Show,and introduces the author's research purpose and the framework of the thesis.The first chapter starts from the perspective of aesthetic popularization,and analyzing that the function of culture as a leading value in the film has changed.Everything began to be corrupted by capital.In order to obtain the so-called ratings,Truman's life was completely exposed;the second chapter explores the manifestation of fetishism as the logic of consumption in the film.The ubiquitous advertisements in the movie dazzled the audience and they were brainwashed by capital;the third chapter,from the point of view of cultural unconsciousness,analyzing capital's corruption of culture and people's critical awareness was suppressed.Truman's parents,wife and friend all conceal the truth in the film,only Sylvia encouraged him to escape this world full of lies.The final conclusion section summarizes the full thesis.
