An Analysis Of News Comments On Micro-blog Via Parameter-based Framework Of Evaluation

The popularity of micro-blog has provided the news media with another platform for reportage,and it also has set up an interactive platform for the masses to express their feelings and comments freely.The news comments on micro-blog are full of the phenomena of evaluation which have their own unique evaluation characteristics.With the micro-blog comments on hot current affairs in 2016 as the corpus,this thesis analyzes the phenomena of evaluation in micro-blog news comments based on Bednarek's parameter-based framework of evaluation,in order to investigate the evaluation characteristics from the perspective of evaluative parameters.There are three research questions: Firstly,are there other parameters of evaluation in micro-blog comments? Secondly,how do all the parameters of evaluation and their sub-values distribute in micro-blog comments? What functions can be realized by the public comments along these parameters? How do the evaluative parameters interplay with each other? Thirdly,what are the frequent expressions of evaluation in micro-blog comments? In order to answer these questions,the parameter-based framework is reviewed at first to introduce the core and peripheral evaluative parameters as well as the evaluative interplay.Secondly,the evaluations in micro-blog comments are classified into sub-values of each parameter based on Bednarek's parameter-based framework of evaluation.The evaluative meanings of those resources that cannot be classified into existing parameters are analyzed and new parameters are to be put forward according to their evaluative meanings.And then the frequency distribution and corresponding expressions of the sub-values of each parameter are presented.The functions of the public comments that are realized with these parameters as well as the evaluative interplay are also explored.Finally,the frequent expressions of the evaluation in micro-blog comments are elaborated and the evaluative framework of micro-blog comments is diagrammed.In the 500 micro-blog comments,there are totally 1111 evaluative resources.The analysis has rendered the following findings:(1)A new core parameter of Accessibility can be put forward to evaluate the aspects as easy or difficult to reach or access,use or obtain.(2)The parameter of Emotivity accounts for the highest proportion.The frequency of the evaluation along sub-values of each parameter is different,which can reflect the evaluative tendencies.And the evaluative resources along each parameter have their own common expressions.(3)With the evaluation along these parameters,the public can release emotions,confirm predictions,express judgements,give suggestions and raise questions.(4)The most common evaluative interplay occurs within the parameter of Emotivity and other parameters.The analysis of evaluative interplay is beneficial to gain some familiarity with the evaluative habits of the public.(5)The public can make comments with inscribed and evoked evaluation,with some common means of expression.Analyzing micro-blog comments via Bednarek's parameter-based framework of evaluation expands the scope of application of this evaluative framework and is conducive to getting acquainted with and guiding public opinion.
