Under the increasing international influence,Xi’an,the forefront of the China Western Development and the ninth national center city with long history,is attracting more and more international friends for visiting.Among them,as a window of foreign cultural publicity,Shaanxi cuisine plays an increasing important role in cross-cultural communication.However,the uneven quality of the English menu in Xi ’an international star-rated hotels will inevitably lead to misreading of Chinese food culture and hinder the promotion of foreign culture.In view of this,this paper takes several English menus of Xi’an star hotels for research object,and the typical dish mistranslation as the breakthrough.According to the diet cultural differences between China and westerns,combing with the dishes in English translation issued by China’s relevant governmental departments,this paper summarizes the existing English translation text,finds problems,puts forward the improvement measures,further combs the principles and methods of dishes translation.It indicates that the translation of dishes is a kind of cross-cultural communication,which involves not only the transformation between two languages,but also the communication between two cultures.As we all know that translation has no fixed models,the translation of dish name must be based on the content,purpose,and the recipients.The dishes translation should not only accurately convey the dishes meaning and show the Chinese diet culture,but also conform to the English language specific cooking and respect the western diet cultural viewpoint. |
