| As an important branch of English for Special Purposes(ESP),Medical English is used by people engaging in health and medicine.The continuous globalization and rapid development of medical services make Medical English a big proportion in medical education curriculum,and the requirements for Medical English teaching are becoming higher.At present,the overall level of Medical English teaching is not high.The main reason is that teaching methods are quite traditional;and the teaching content and teaching mode are boring and monotonous.Therefore,it is very necessary to use modern education technology to construct a Medical English Multimodal Corpus to support Medical English teaching and learning.The development of Corpus Linguistics and computer technology make the corpus increasingly used in language education.As an advanced teaching tool,its great potential to promote language teaching and learning has been confirmed.The combination of corpus and teaching is mainly reflected in three aspects(Leech 1997): the direct application of corpus in teaching(such as Corpus Linguistics teaching,teaching how to use the corpus and using the corpus to teach),the indirect application of corpus in teaching(textbook development,language testing,development of reference books,etc.)as well as language teaching oriented corpus development(e.g.,specialized corpus,parallel corpus,and learners? corpus).This thesis mainly studies the development and application of language teaching oriented corpus.Based on the theory of Corpus Linguistics and Multimodal Discourse Analysis,the author attempts to construct a small Medical English Multimodal Corpus.Indicators are extracted and annotated from the aspects of phonetics,vocabulary,syntax,discourse and nonverbal communication according to the teaching features and requirements of Medical English.This Multimodal Corpus supports multi-dimensional retrieval of medical terms such as keywords,phonetics,themes,and contexts and so on.Then,its application in Medical English teaching is discussed and ways to build Multimodal Corpus to support language research and teaching are explored.This study shows that Medical English Multimodal Corpus could be popularly applied in fields such as Medical English teaching and Multimodal Discourse Analysis of doctor-patient dialogue,etc.Multimodal Corpus provides real and objective discourse materials and multiple contexts for Medical English teaching.Using this corpus in the process of teaching and learning can effectively achieve the goal of “student-centered”.Application of Multimodal Corpus can provide valuable feedback for education reformation,optimizing teaching and evaluation methods and Medical English text books development. |
