This is a project report on the translation of Regional Implications of an Independent Kurdistan, which is released by Rand on December 14th,2016.Regional Implications of an Independent Kurdistan mainly investigates the potential regional impact of an independent Kurdistan in northern Iraq. The chosen part is Chapter Three of the survey report, mainly focusing on Iraq's reaction to an Independent Kurdistan, including KRG-Baghdad relations,Baghdad's response to Kurdish independence, and the influence of Kurdish nationalism. The project aims to provide Chinese readers with a better understanding of the historical origins between Kurdistan and Iraq and the regional implications of an independent Kurdistan through accurate and appropriate translation. The translation of the investigation report is an important way for Chinese readers to understand situation, social background and policies of other countries.Research results of the translation report also provide some guidance for the translation of the investigation reports in the future and are also conducive to making it easier for Chinese to understand the current affairs in the world.Difficulty in this translation lies in the fact that there is abundant background information, proper nouns, long and complex sentences, which are a challenge to the knowledge reserve and language skills of the author.Based on the functional equivalence theory, the author takes the translation practice of the investigation report of "Kurdistan's independent regional influence" as a blueprint and does further research from perspectives of background knowledge, vocabulary, syntax and style. Also, the author tries to translate the source text as faithfully and fluently as possible to achieve the original effect by various strategies such as division, complement and conversion.
