Using the experimental method to explore the influence of the text length on reading under different ways of text presentation.The study is divided into four parts,the pre-experiment through the questionnaire survey,reveals the contemporary college students Chinese text reading subjective readability evaluation and preference;in experiment one,by using scientific text explore the effect of the text length on reading Comprehension across paper and mobile;in experiment two,do some further research to explore the effect of text length,different types of knowledge and different ways of text presentation on text reading;in experiment three,in order to explain why different text length can affect text reading performance,eye tracker was used to record the eye movement data when reading different length text and the experience sampling method was used to record the times of mind wandering.The results show that:(1)Text length had significant effect on reading comprehension,short text reading performance are better than the medium and the long."mind wandering’" frequency was significantly lower when reading short text.There are no differences in the first fixation duration,average fixation time,and fixation times when reading different length text.,but when reading short text,the total fixation time was longer and the pupil diameter was significantly smaller than the medium and the long.Thus,the medium and long text are more likely to cause "mind wandering" and fatigue,so that reading processing time is reduced,eventually lead to poor reading performance.(2)Results suggest that the compounding effects of text length and thy way of text presentation uniformly affected reading performance.When reading Short text,mobile phone reading performance was significantly better than that of the paper;when reading medium text,mobile phone performance is slightly better than that of paper,but there is no significant difference;when reading long text,mobile phone reading performance is significantly lower than that of paper.In short,using a mobile phone to read is more suitable for short and medium-length text,when reading a long text is more suitable for paper.(3)Results suggest that the compounding effects of text length and different types of knowledge uniformly affected reading performance.When reading short and medium length text,professional knowledge is superior to the common sense knowledge,when reading long text,common sense knowledge is superior to professional knowledge.
