Mrs.Dalloway is a masterpiece of Virginia Woolf's stream-of-consciousness novels. In recent years, with the emergence of spatial theory in literature, political significance of space in her works has received much concern.Based on Woolf's social identity and cultural background, this thesis reveals her political thinking in Mrs.Dalloway in light of Lefebvre's spatial theory. For one thing,it focuses on Lefebvre's spatial theory in order to explore Woolf's meditation on spatial politics, and dwells upon the theory of “spatial triad” so as to further explain the formation of “representation of space”,“spatial practice” and “representational space” in the novel. For another,it emphatically analyzes the dialectical relationship among “representation of space”,“spatial practice” and “representational space” and elucidates spatial politics of gender, class and nation in this novel, aiming to dig out how space as a political factor reveals Woolf's criticism and reflection on the patriarchal system, capitalist society and imperialism as well as its influence in the era.
