A Report On The Translation Of English Legal Texts

Legal texts have been playing an important role in our daily life.As more and more people choose to study abroad and migrate to other countries,the need of translation of relevant English legal texts such as release agreement and legal forms has increased.Therefore,qualified translation of such texts is of great significance.However,if the translation of English legal texts is not proper,it will cause a loss to people.In conclusion,the translation of English legal texts bestows strickt requirements to the translator,and it is crucial for the industry of migrating as well as studying abroad.This report selects the Lease Agreement and Form 80 of west Australia as the source texts.The first step is to introduce and analyze the research background and the texts.The next two parts are the description of this translation practice.Same as all kinds of translation for other different texts,translation principles are the criteria.Translation of English legal texts is also subject to its specific principles.This report illustrates the principles for the translation of English legal texts with the relevant theoretical references.In addition,under these translation principles the translation skills for the modal verbs must and may,the word where in the English legal texts,the interrogative sentences and long compound sentences are analyzed in this report with examples.Meanwhile,the translation methods during this practice process are also discussed.Through this translation practice,a more clear understanding for the translation of English legal texts is the first harvest.Besides,the author has made introspection and summary after solving the problems which occur in the practice,hoping that such problems can be avoided in the translation of legal texts afterwards and that this practice can be helpful to study as well as career in the future.
