Report On Chinese-English Translation Of Part One In Chapter Seven Of A Study Of The Charitable Donation Mechanism In Contemporary China

With its rapid development,China has been attaching increasing importance to developing its charitable donation cause.Especially after entering the 21 st century,China's cause of charitable donation has also entered a new stage of rapid growth,attracting many domestic scholars who have conducted researches of the country's charities.The Chinese monograph Zhongguo Cishan Juanzeng Jizhi Yanjiu(A Study of the Charitable Donation Mechanism in Contemporary China)by Gao Jianguo,et al.is an important achievement in the regard,which analyzes the development trend of the charitable donation mechanism in China,involving such aspects as the organization and management mechanism,the supervision and transparency mechanism,and the donation raising mechanism.This book has been listed by National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science of China into the books for “Translation Project of the Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences Academic Boutique” funded by National Social Sciences Foundation and there has been no English translation of the book published.Therefore,the translation project is of academic significance and practical value.The object of translation for this translation project is Part 1 in Chapter Seven of the book,which is “Zhongguo Cishan Juanzeng Jizhi Fazhan Qushi Fenxi”(Analysis of Trends in Development of Charitable Donation Mechanism in China),with over ten thousand Chinese characters in total.This chapter mainly explores into the trends in the development of the general donation pattern of China,and some major sub-mechanisms in the overall charitable donation mechanism of the country in recent years.The text,which belongs to the category of non-literary social sciences texts,is intended mainly for straight statement,analytical argumentation in a logical way,with a writing style of simplicity and conciseness.As far as the types of texts for translation goes,the text is reproductive and calls for reproductive translation as the dominant.On the basis of her analysis of the Chinese text and some major factors relevant with its translation,thetranslator formulates her translation principle and strategy and conducts her translation task,which constitutes the basis for her translation report,including mainly her introduction and analysis of the original text,process description,case analysis and conclusion.In her translating,the translator carries out her translation principle and strategy by applying flexibly the various translating methods for the transformation of the Chinese text into English.In the process,the translator strives to retain the original system of concepts and ways of argumentation as well as the original entire textual structure,in an attempt to render her translation objective and complete in theoretical conception,accurate and smooth in language,and concise and unified in stylistic profile,thus getting close to the published English writings in the same field,with adequate readability.She hopes that the translated version can reach the requirement for publication in English so as to be helpful to transmitting contemporary Chinese scholars' research achievements with regard to charities to the English speaking world.
