"Recommendation on Generals" is an ancient Chinese selection system of military officer,namely brave and fierce officers with military strategy are recommended and appointed according to certain conditions and procedures.It aims to recruit military talents to consolidate and strengthen imperial power service.It is originated from the"Recommendation on Generals" and Commanders in Emperor Cheng of Western Han Dynasty and after the continuous development in later dynasties,it tends to be institutionalized in the Southern Song Dynasty.In the Ming dynasty,on the basis of former generations in order to adapt to the characteristics of political and military system and the reality needs of Ming dynasty the "Recommendation on Generals" is sprouted in Hong-wu and Yong-le period and is formally established in the fifth year of Xuande Period.It has become one of the important ways to select military officers in Ming dynasty.Since then,the continuous development in Zhengtong and Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty has made it gradually improved in conditions of the recommendations on referrer and the applicant as well as the recommending process.After the Longqing period,the system has developed in some aspects.However,as politics and military are gradually decayed in the Ming dynasty,it has also showed the trend of the rigidity.The systematic research of the system of recommendation on generals in the Ming dynasty is beneficial to know that it has played an important role in military in the Ming dynasty and it also has a certain influence on the politics of the Ming dynasty.What is more,it has provided beneficial references in the selection of military talents,maintaining the social mobility and the needs of laying equal stress on civil administration and military to manage state affairs for future generations.
