《Multifaceted》—Illustrator Design Report From Ed Sheeran Folk Music Albums

The title of the design is Multifaceted,which is an album cover design based on the beauty of folk music by the British singer Ed Sheeran.The theme of this design is multifaceted,which means the richness expressed in the singer’s music works as well as the diversity of materials selected in this design.The design expresses the author’s feelings of Ed Sheeran’s different folk songs through the form of an album cover,thus solves the problem that the form of album covers in folk music market is too monotonic.It combines the unique personal style with independent ideological connotation,and it mainly uses the design method of collage and painting,supplemented by comprehensive techniques such as rubbing and sewing,to express the rhythm,rhyme,sense of the times and emotion conveyed in his music.According to the survey of the album cover in folk music market,different types of folk album covers at home and abroad are collected and analyzed.The author makes in-depth and detailed investigation by the methods of market survey,supplemented by literature review,network information collection,thus to understand the situation and gap of illustration in the domestic folk music albums,as well as to guide the author’s design.Moreover,this paper makes a comprehensive theoretical research of the folk music album illustration design from three aspects.First of all,this paper studies the form of folk music album cover.It makes research on the painting language such as composition,point,line,plane and color,as well as how to transfer them into music language.Second,the era of folk music album cover illustration is studied,including the relationship between the change and inheritance of the folk music album cover and the times,and its relationship with other contemporary art trends.Lastly,this paper analyzes the relationship between the cover design of folk music album cover and the illustrator,thus provides the theoretical and practical basis for the feasibility of the design.The innovation of this design lies in exploring the various possibilities of comprehensive illustration techniques in music album cover design.It makes a creative integration of elements such as point,line,plane and texture,and makes the abstract music style into concrete image information,so that the audience can acquire maximum music information at the moment of seeing the design.The key is to study how to transform painting language into music language in design,and the difficulty lies in how to use different texture,materials and collage techniques to express emotions conveyed in music.The design is guided by the innovative design thinking and design language in the music album cover design,highlighting the possibilities among comprehensive illustration design techniques and folk music album cover design.It is of enlightening and guiding significance to the transformation of the individual’s design ideas,the progress of the design ability and the improvement of the mass aesthetic ability.
