Ergonomic Study On Floating Form Error Message

The new floating form error message is a combination of traditional embedded error message and the traditional pop-up error message,with the advantages both.When the error occurs as user completing the form,there will be a "floating window" in the middle of the page contains an error with the label,input box,error message and submit the button,helping users correct the error efficiently and easily.And the advantages of the prompt mode have been verified both in touch screen mobile phone and in PC.In this study,three experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of floating window form error message on user's modified form performance and subjective satisfaction.Experiment one in the touch screen phone compared the traditional embedded error message prompts and the new floating window error message prompts in the completion of the verification code form correction task performance and subjective satisfaction.On the basis of experiment 1,the traditional embedded error message is improved,and the degree of difference between the improved embedded error message and the new floating window form error message are compared under the touch screen phone.Finally,we compare the difference of performance and subjective satisfaction on the PC platform between the improved embedded error message prompt and the new floating window form error message.Through the above experiment,this study draws the following conclusions:(1)The new floating window error message prompt method can significantly improve the operation performance and subjective satisfaction when correcting the form.(2)When there is only one item of error,designer can consider the use of improved embedded error message prompt mode,with the new submission button beside the error input box,which can improve the user's operation performance to re-submit the corrective information.(3)When the number of errors is more than one item,it is recommended that these errors should be gathered together,showing by the new floating window error message prompts,so that users can focus on correcting all errors more effectively.(4)In the PC platform,using keyboard and mouse operation,the new floating window form error prompt still has the advantage of the operation as it is in the touch screen mobile phone platform.The significance of this research is to propose a new error message prompt method,and use the empirical research method to explore the impact of the prompt method to the performance and subjective satisfaction for users' form error correction,and finally the presentation of the form of information prompted the presentation of the design principles.
