The Study Of Different Forms Money Priming On Perceived Control

Money is one of the most enduring topics in social psychology.There is a great deal of connection between money and control.Control can be divided into two types,one is a stable and lasting personality,the other one is a situational adjusting variable.Most of the researches are about the sense of control.But research on the perceived control is relatively rare.However,some studies have found that the sense of state control is related to the money prime(Duan Yi,2014).Nevertheless,there are still many imperfections:(1)Most studies are about the initiation of money,but almost not mentioned the types of money.(2)Studies have found that money can reduce the pain of social exclusion,whether electronic payment has similar effects.Based on the defect of the existing research,this study intends to explore the different forms of money concepts,including the concept of cash and the bank cards.In this paper,we try to give the answer by two experiments.Hypothesis 1:money(cash and bank card concepts)prime individuals’ perceived control is higher than the control group.Hypothesis 2:there is a significant difference of perceived control between the cash and bank card.Hypothesis 3:there is a significant difference between the money and bank card,that in the level of the perceived control after the social exclusion.The first experiment money-prime through scrambled-words task of cash and bank card.Then participants are supposed to complete the Michinov questionnaire under the requirements.The design of single factor experimental is that the independent variable is the type of money,including three levels:the concept of cash,bank cards and neutral concept.The dependent variable is the control.In order to reduce the additional disturbance of the control,the subjects were screened before the formal experiment.The second experiment examined perceived control in different situation by recalling past experiences.It’s a 2(cash vs.bank card)x 2(social exclusion vs.neutral)experimental,the independent variable is the type and situation of money,the dependent variable is perceived control.The experimental results show:1.The concept of money(cash concept and bank card concept)can significantly enhance the promotion of the individual’s sense of state control.The perceived control is higher than the control group.However,there is no difference between the two groups in the cash and bank cards.2.The influence of money type on perceived control is different in situations.The effect of social exclusion on the perceived control is influenced by the type of money.It is shown that in the social exclusion situation,the cash-prime individual’s perceived control is higher than the bank card-prime individual.In the summery,This study provides a new perspective for the scholars to analyze the influence on consumer decision-making behavior.
