Report On E-C Translation Of General Motors Technical Standards

With the development of globalization,China has conducted extensive technical exchanges and cooperation with other countries around the world.The translation of automobile standardization document is being prevailed.The research object of the report is the translation project of general motors worldwide(GMW)automotive technology standard(ATS).In this paper,the author analyzes the characteristics of such a kind of English for Science and Technology(EST)text from lexical,syntactic as well as stylistic aspects.Then,the author puts forward several translation methods under the guidance of Eugene Nida's equivalent translation theory(ETT),for the purpose of providing a number of beneficial references for the research and translation practice of similar texts.The report mainly consists of 6 parts.The introduction gives a generaldescription of the background,contents as well as the significance of the report.The second chapter aims at the analysis of the source text(ST),including three aspects in lexicon,syntax as well as stylistic features.Chapter 3 generalizes the technical standards translation strategies under the guidance of ETT strategy.Chapter 4 elaborates the process description of the translation task which includes preparation before translation,translation and proofreading of the translation.Chapter 5 is the vital part of the report which presents the specific case studies of the translation project on lexical,syntactic and stylistic levels.The last chapter is the summary of the thesis and the client's reflections of the translation practice.
