| Written by Toni Morrison,Home is about the pursuit of home.It explores the relationship between space and the black identity by narrating the journey of Frank and his sister’s leaving and returning home.By applying the theory of space, the thesis reveals the historical reality that the living environment of the black is marginalized from three spatial angles: physical space, psychological space and social space.Based on Toni Morrison’s experience and her social background and in light of Lefebvre’s spatial theory,on one hand, the thesis explains the spatial influence on the black’s life, and analyzes the representation of space, spatial practice and representational space, exploring the realistic plight of the black, the processes of home-pursuit and home construction of the black. On the other hand, the thesis emphatically analyzes the dialectical relationship between space and characters, and it expounds the historical significance of race, gender and class. Finally, the thesis unscrambles Toni Morrison’s imagination for the black living space and the thought for the black living route, aiming at revealing the significance of space which is an important narrative element to literature and real society. |
