Opera "the Flying Dutchman",created by the Germany composer Richard Wagner in nineteenth Century romantic period,is an exploratory work towards music drama in his early time,which reflects his personal style and the willingness to reform.Throughout Wagner's operas and dramas in his life time,we can find the importance of tragic theme in his works.This thesis takes the opera " the Flying Dutchman" as a specific object of study to explore its tragic elements by using literature analysis,sociological analysis,music text analysis and other research methods.The content is divided into four chapters.The first chapter explored the origin of tragic of "the Flying Dutchman".The second chapter analyzed the tragic elements of "the Flying Dutchman" from the microscopic in three aspects:theme,music and script.The third chapter is about the tragic understanding of the opera "wandering Dutchman",from the perspective · of Chinese traditional culture,from the point of view,the character and the ending:One is the theme of the opera contains China fulcrum of traditional culture of Taoist dialectical thinking;Two is the opera character shaping contains the Confucian sense of play and opera contains China ending in the traditional culture "and" thought in three aspects.The fourth chapter summarized the tragic significance of the work while raising some doubts and ideas during the researching.
