| The New Curriculum Standards puts forward that qualified teachers should not only have professional thought,professional ethics,subject knowledge and educational theory literacy,but also have the abilities of education and teaching practice,and master scientific and advanced teachers’ vocational skills because teachers are regarded as the crucial people in curriculum reform.Under the background of continuous development of fundamental English education,it is urgent to strengthen the teaching and research for English education majors’ teaching skills.Students can obtain employments easily in future if they have strong professional skills.What’s more,their strong abilities of teaching practice can provide positive energy for their future teaching and help them to improve their teaching efficiency.Nowadays,teachers of fundamental English education are usually trained by normal universities.Therefore,it is of realistic significance to investigate and better understand the status knowledge of English education majors’teaching skills in normal universities,and explore the existing problems and find out the strategies to deal with them.There is not so much research about the teaching skills of English education majors nowadays,but teaching practice indicates that there are many existing problems in this aspect which is worth of studying.The topic of the present research is chosen according to this situation.The present research,taking 120 senior English education majors from two normal universities in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as the subjects and adopting the methods of analyzing lesson plan,classroom observation and questionnaire and interview,conducts a survey on the status knowledge of classroom teaching skills of English education majors.The main purposes are as follows:(1)to better understand the present status of mastering classroom teaching skills knowledge of English education majors.(2)To find out the existing problems of classroom teaching skills the English education majors have and analyze the cause of the problems.(3)To make suggestions on how to help English education majors effectively improve the ability of mastering their classroom teaching skills knowledge.The results of the present research show that(1)in general,most subjects’ mastering of classroom teaching skills knowledge remain on ordinary level;some skills are on the low side,such as the skills of lead-in,the skills of classroom arrangement,and the skills of blackboard-writing and classroom controlling.(2)The professional knowledge of most of the subjects is stronger than their practical skills.(3)Normal universities relatively still lack of teaching resources of teaching skills for English education majors,such as the lack of excellent teachers of teaching skill course and the poor in guiding students’ teaching practice,and the internship teaching base for students’ practice is imperfect.Meanwhile,some available teaching resources can not be used fully.Inspired by teacher development theory,theory of behaviorism and constructivism theory and according to the survey results,the present research puts forward three related suggestions:(1)it should further improve the curriculum design of professional skills according to the professional features and students’ need.(2)It should further strengthen the students’ teaching skill training through combining theory with practice.(3)It should fully develop and use all the related teaching resources for the purpose of helping students improve their classroom teaching skills effectively. |
