It is stipulated that we should actively promote the teaching in English or other foreign language in undergraduate education, especially in the field of high and new technology(State Ministry of Education,2001).English for specific purposes, abbreviated as ESP,plays an important role in foreign language teaching in Higher Education due to its unique characteristics..Along with the development of the global economy,ESP is recognized by enterprises and the graduates possessing good knowledge of ESP are more and more popular. Therefore,ESP courses are opened in many independent colleges, but there is still much lack in course construction, especially in teaching evaluation. The paper,on the basis of the existing researches, takes Lushan College of Guangxi University of Science and Technology for the case study.200 students and 15 teachers from Lushan College and 5 enterprises are selected as the subjects.First,we can understand the status quo of ESP teaching evaluation and the basic needs of the students, teachers and the employees in terms of questionnaire, interview and class observation. Then,The data has been collected and analyzed. Finally, according to the statistics, the problems will be stated and the suggestions will be put forward based on the needs analysis report. There are several disadvantages of the current ESP teaching evaluation in Lushan College.First, the diagnosis role of assessment is not attached great importance so that needs analysis is not conducted at the beginning of the course or the activities;second, the form of formative assessment is dull and lacks a unified category, and the students,as the main body of learning, are not really involved in the process offormative evaluation activities;third, there still exists the deficiency of scoring criteria in partial assessment and the professional characteristics are less prominent,so that it is not effective to improve the students' ability of expressing the simple professional knowledge with each other in English;fourth,ESP teachers have no corresponding professional background and the designed content of teaching evaluation lacks certain validity and reliability. The research targets at these problems and offers some suggestions, aiming to help improve the system of ESP teaching evaluation and improve the quality of ESP courses in independent colleges.
