Loanwords are not uncommon in languages, especially in English. It can be witnessed from the history of English that loanwords are borrowed, absorbed, and internalized, among which a considerable amount are from Chinese. As the focus of study, the origin, categories, and characteristics of Chinese loanwords in English are concentrated on the one hand, and the memetic examinations of English loanwords in Chinese are conducted on the other hand.It is a fact that further study of memetic internalization of loanwords concerning the reasons and effects is in need. From the diachronic and synchronic perspectives, the memetic internalization of Chinese loanwords in English concerning its formation, stages, characteristics, reasons, and effects is examined in this thesis. For the means of memetic internalization of Chinese loanwords in English, there are phonetic internalization, semantic internalization, and transliteration;and the phonetic, morphological, and semantic characteristics are demonstrated respectively. The internal requirements in the development of the English language and the great influence of Chinese and China's culture facilitate the memetic internalization of Chinese loanwords in English. Thus, the memetic internalization of Chinese loanwords in English has effects on the English language involving the enrichment of its vocabulary and its culture on the one hand;and promotes the understanding of the era peculiarity of China and the characteristics of cultural communication in different periods on the other hand.In addition, the study of Chinese loanwords in English also betters the promotion of transmission of China's great culture.
