The Study Of The Craftsmanship And Lineage Of The Medium-sized Rod Puppets In Zizhong County Sichuan Province

The Rod Puppets is an important type of puppet integral to the puppet system in China,which has a long history.Important as it is,the Medium-sized Rod Puppets in Zizhong County,Sichuan Province,has been enrolled in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List,registered in No.236Ⅳ-92,and is a representative type of the Rod Puppets in the Bashu area.The Medium-sized Rod Puppets in Zizhong county is a comprehensive folk art form still active in the Bashu area.The craftsmanship was generated under the reign of Emperor Guangxu in Qing Dynasty,including modeling,carving,painting,weaving and penetrating,and both the techniques and materials has significantly evolved all these years.Based on systematic literature retrieval and sorting,I find that there is a lack of research in the Medium-sized Rod Puppets in Zizhong County,particularly from the perspective of artistics,on which my research on the craftsmanship and the lineage system the Medium-sized Rod Puppets in Zizhong County will be mainly based.Given this,this thesis will apply methods of field work and systematic engineering,is aiming to investigate the puppet troupe of Zizhong county,the key target of my observation,with the inheritor of the representative craftsmanship and performance of the Medium-sized Rod Puppets in Zizhong County as the object for in-depth interviews.The qualitative analysis was grounded on direct observation and in-depth interviews,and the quantitative analysis grounded on actual measurement and data collection,which contributes to the foundation of a relatively complete database of the craftsmanship and the lineage system of the Medium-sized Rod Puppets in Zizhong County.Based on the literature investigating,sorting and concluding of the primitive data,this research will focus on the craftsmanship and the lineage system,demonstrated from the logic of the mesoscopic sub points as well as the microscopic details.Firstly,according to the field work,a literature review on the historical evolution of the Medium-sized Rod Puppets in Zizhong County will be conducted,to sort out the manufacturing instruments,the materials,the technical process,the cultural shifts of the folklore significance and the causes of the craftsmanship changes of the Medium-sized Rod Puppets in Zizhong County,which lays a solid foundation of the following research.Secondly,based on the status quo of the craftsmanship in the Medium-sized Rod Puppets in Zizhong County,assorting the plays for performance on the basis of the manual production of the Rod Puppets,and the special requirements of the performance tricks and the manual skills,in order to examine the relationship between the performance and the craftsmanship.Then,through analysis of the status quo and the problems faced by the Medium-sized Rod Puppets in Zizhong County,the relations between and the problems of the inheritor group of the cultural heritage and the crafts design,I am going to propose my thoughts and suggestions about the pan-characteristic phenomena.In the end,based on previous field work and literature review,through analysis of both the internal and external causes to these problems,adopting the reverse thinking mode,I will conduct a systematic examination on the effective measures to protect the Medium-sized Rod Puppets in Zizhong County,aiming to new thoughts on the protection of the Rod Puppets as a an intangible cultural heritage.
