Since the 21st century,Chinese construction industry has undergone tremendous development. At the same time, the international construction enterprises have also entered the Chinese market. However, behind these glorious achievements, there is a huge gap between the domestic construction enterprises and overseas'.The purpose of the book Classic Readings in Architecture is to introduce students of architecture to the important literature of this field, and also to serve as a reference document for architects and others who seek an overview of architecture as an academic discipline as well as professional pursuit. The content of the book includes journal articles and selected book chapters by authors who are recognized as major contributors to architectural history, theory, and practice.Based upon Buhler's classification of language functions,Peter Newmark classifies texts into three types, the expressive type, the informative type and the vocative type.During the translation action, texts are more often multifunctional, with a mixture of informative, expressive and vocative elements. As a branch of EST,architextural text possesses features of strict structure, clear logic and objective expression, focuing on the facts beyond the language. The translator should take the informative function as the dominant function on translating this type of text, and the translation version should follow the principles on accuracy, faithfulness, coherence and formalness. Therefore,it is very suitable to adopt semantic translation and communicative translation in this translation project.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark's translation theory, the translator carries out translation practice through ST and CT,and conducts translation studies, focusing on case analysis on lexical level, syntactic level and cross-culture translation. From the lexical level, the translator adopts diction, amplification and other translation strategies. In terms of syntactic level,in order to make the version fluent and comprehensive, the translator conducts flexible translation strategies like linear translation, decomposition and restructuring of the long sentences and so on.This report also analyzes the cross-culture translation in architectural text, and concentrates on the translation compensation on culture-loaded words in case of cultural vacancy. Finally, the report arrives at conclusion on the gains and experience,as well as problems and limitation of the paper. The author of this report sincerely hopes it could provide reference to other similar translation.
