A Report On E-C Translation Of Newspapers From The Perspective Of Conceptual Metaphor Theory

Newspaper is a communication tool for the public to acquire information.The translation of English news helps Chinese readers know global hot issues in a convenient way;therefore,it plays an important role in communication.This translation report is based on English to Chinese newspaper translation practice.During the practice,it is found that the original texts contain a large number of metaphors with certain regularities,while translating these metaphors is a challenging task.As a result,the translator analyzes the metaphors and proposes corresponding translation strategies on the guidance of conceptual metaphor theory.Before the case analysis of translation,this report gives a brief introduction to the task and a description of translation process.The entire translation includes preparation before translation,translation process and proofreading,and then difficulties in this task are listed.In addition,conceptual metaphor theory and studies on metaphor translation are demonstrated.Then the translation strategies are proposed.If English and Chinese mapping conditions are same or similar,transplanting the same CM,transplanting CM plus explanation and transforming CM into simile are adopted.Besides,if the mapping conditions are similar while expressions are different,or the mapping conditions of these two cultures are different,transforming CM to different CM or to non-metaphor are applied.Then the translator draws a conclusion.In this part,the feasibilities and limitations of these strategies are drawn.Besides,the enlightenments of this practice are also summarized.This translation report helps to overcome difficulties in metaphor translation and provides references for English to Chinese news translation.
