As an immigrant country, migrants are important parts of Australian population.Since the 1970 s,with the gradual implementation of the policy of multiculturalism,Australia has gradually changed their immigration policy. After the end of the Vietnam War in 1975,a large number of Vietnamese immigrants began to move to Australia. Now they has gradually become an important part of the Australian multicultural society and contributed a lot.My thesis will explore the immigration background, living conditions and causes of these Vietnamese immigrants from the perspective of social integration. My thesis consists of the following four chapters.Chapter one mainly analyzes the concept of social integration of immigrants and the division of research dimension. This paper defines social integration as a social behavior process in which immigrants interact with individuals and groups of specific communities of local society reflectively and persistently. And according to the relevant international immigration theory, the specific research content is divided into economic, political, social and cultural living conditions.Chapter two mainly analyzes the background of Vietnamese migration to Australia after the Vietnam War,including the economic globalization, the domestic factors in Australia and the influence of the Vietnam War,and summarizes the three larger Vietnamese immigrants in Australia since 1975.Chapter three is the main focus of my thesis. This chapter mainly assesses the living conditions of the Vietnamese immigrants at the economic, political, social and cultural levels from the perspective of social integration. The overall living conditions of the Vietnamese immigrants in Australia are improving, but there are still many problems need to be solved.Specifically, although there are still some gaps in Vietnamese immigrants when comparing with local community, such as employment rate, occupational distribution, income levels and citizen participation, government services and other aspects, their overall economic and political conditions are steadily improving. But in social and cultural living conditions,Vietnamese immigrants are facing more difficulties and challenges in terms of settlement, drug crime,English level, cultural concept and identity. This challenges made negative impact on their social integration.Chapter four analyzes the causes of Vietnamese living conditions in Australia, including traditional causes of migration, such as the Vietnam war,the type of immigration, and Australian causes, like local policy, social acceptance, public opinion propaganda. At the same time, the relevant research also shows that the social integration of immigrants is often a long-term process, with the development of the society,Vietnamese immigrants' living conditions will gradually improve.
