A Study On Features And Translation Strategies Of Practical Technology Texts

Under the background of globalization,China's communication and cooperation with foreign countries in fields of politics,economy and culture have become more frequent.The number of professional texts,such as texts of finance,law,business and science and technology,are increasing,and urgently need to be translated by highly qualified professional translators.When working on a specific text,translators must consider its features,and apply translation principles and translation strategies based on the features.Meanwhile,translators need to master as more background knowledge of professional texts as possible in combination with professional translation knowledge.When translating different texts,translators need to use appropriate translation strategies based on the analysis of the texts,so as to successfully complete the translation task.This paper will use texts ** Company Technical Agreement for Low-pressure Casting Machine(hereinafter referred as Technical Agreement for Casting Machine)and ** Company Technical Agreement for Washer(hereinafter referred as Technical Agreement for Washer)as examples,and with the guide of German functionalism to analyze stylistic features of practical technology text from the three levels of vocabulary,sentence and discourse.The paper then summarizes the translation strategies that should be adopted when translating technical texts.For example,on vocabulary level,practical technology text adopts abundant technical words,semi-technical words and compound words.When translating technical words,accuracy and consistency should be taken into consideration,and the literal translation method should be used in compound words;On sentence level,passive sentences,non-subject sentences and compound long sentences are often used.When translating these sentences,translators should pay attention to expression styles of the target language so as to ensure that the translation is straightforward and fluent;On discourse level,Practical technology text is generally logical with strong stylization,therefore translators should pay attention to textual cohesion and try to retain the original stylized structure.Finally,the paper reveals the complexity of the professional translation process: Professional translators not only need to identify the features,principles and strategies of professional translation,but need to exert their own subjectivity to be flexible on the specific issues,and complete the translation task with professional manner.
