Research In He Kongde's Creation Of Art Works On Military Themes

The creation of oil-paintings on military themes was an important part of contemporary oil painting creation in China and He Kongde(1925-2003) was one of the best artists in the creation of paintings on military themes in contemporary China.Throughout his artistic career, He closely linked his artistic ideal with paintings on military themes. The beauty of loftiness which naturally flows from his artworks is a result of his artistic self-cultivation and shining personality. From the perspective of aesthetics, this thesis aims to study the artistic achievement of He Kongde with“loftiness” as the keyword.For a long time, during his creation of works on military themes, He developed artistic features including conspicuous theme, rich oil painting language,state-of-the-art expression and profound significance. His works had great historical significance and possessed extremely high artistic research values. In this thesis, we integrated the use of five methods including(1)literature analysis,(2)diagram analysis,(3)individual case analysis,(4) comparative analysis and(5) interview, and conducted an in-depth analysis on the artistic features, aesthetic characteristics and cultural connotation of He's works from the angle of the importance of history and culture, the science of art and beauty and art forms on the creation of oil paintings. The key in the discussion was the analysis of He's military theme work creation from the vertical and horizontal aspects. Vertically, we described the history of He's creation. Horizontally,we studied the aesthetic characteristics of He's works from the aspects including themes, picture components and use of techniques. By doing so, we further probed into how He managed to highlight his artistic style that was both universal and varied in his creation of oil paintings with conspicuous political and military themes.After the analysis and studies as introduced above, we found that knowledge construction was the major factor that helped form the aesthetic beauty of He's creation and that the sense of loftiness was an important feature of He's painting aesthetic beauty. It is fair to say that He's creation history is still of universal relevance in contemporary oil painting creation. Therefore, we conclude that it isessential to highlight the sense of beauty and take effective measures to improve the expression of oil painting language.
