Ningbo Newspapers And Periodicals In The View Of Modernization

The modern Ningbo newspaper industry started from the late Qing Dynansty,and it developed with the opening-up of Ningbo and the multiple invasions of foreign powers.From Chinese and Foreign Gazette which was established by the foreign churchman.The modern Ningbo newspaper industry has a history of 95 years,during which more than 300 kinds of newspapers were issued.Through the three aspects including the sprouting,establishment and development of the modern Ningbo newspaper industry,the modernization of its operating mode and the modernization of its spreading ideas.This dissertation illustrates the blueprint of development and the law of change of the modern Ningbo city.This paper is divided into six parts.The first part is the preface,which is a brief introduction of the Ningbo newspaper industry,the significance of the research and the research method.The second part describes the development of the modern newspaper industry of Ningbo.Regarding time as the coordinate axis,brief history of the Ningbo newspaper industry from 1845 to late 19 th century,from 1903 to 1918 and from 1919 to 1949 are separately described.The third part is about the modern operating mode of the Ningbo newspaper industry,and it is described in four aspects: change of the issuer from foreign churchman to natives in Ningbo,change of the value of journalism from restriction by the church to independent statement,the updation of newspaper publishing technology and the versatility of the news audience.The fourth part is mainly the analysis of the modern Ningbo newspaper industry and the spread of modern thoughts.The press stimulated the reader's thinking and participation by setting up special column and soliciting contributions.The newspaper is not only important ways of spreading progressive ideas but also the touchstone of the public's thought acceptance.The fifth part is the analysis of the existing problems in the Ningbo newspaper industry and reason for these problems.Although the Ningbo newspaper industry starts early,its status in Chinese newspaper history can not be compared to that of Shanghai and Wuhan etc.The main problems include its short life and slow development.Through comparison with the development of newspaper industry of Shanghai,the main reason for its underdevelopment is analyzed.Influenced by Shanghai,local people subscribed the newspaper in Shanghai;The political activities in Ningbo was very low and it was not easy to form newspaper industry in a secondary city in coastal provinces.The national bourgeoisie in Ningbo developed very slow and there was a shortage of financial support.For these reasons the newspaper industry in Ningbo missed the golden age of development after the Hundred Days Reform.Until after May Fourth Movement,the climax of running newspapers appeared in Ningbo.The sixth part is the conclusion,and a comprehensive evaluation of the newspaper industry in Ningbo.The development of Ningbo newspaper industry was extremely characteristic.Ningbo was one of earliest opening-up cities,and it was greatly influenced by Shanghai.Besides the old home of Jieshi Jiang was in Fenghua of Ningbo and its political and geographical environment were very special.On journalist community,Ningbo has many journalists such as Yidie Wu.Vertically it has three distinct development stages,and horizontality it plays an important role in modern newspaper history.On the management of the news office,civilian newspaper developed into corporate newspaper,and some of the newspaper office set up special columns for charity and many others.This paper presents the development of Ningbo newspaper publishing industry by combing through the modern newspapers and publishing industry in Ningbo.
