The Visual Form And Design Method Of Reprinted Typeface On Screen Display

Screen is a new media used in creation mostly with the help of software and applied in agents such as Internet,television,pc and cellphone.It is a new art form that replaces traditional paper as the main media of information dissemination.As the linguistic symbols that recorded the thousand-year-Chinese civilization,Chinese characters carry rich history,culture and aesthetic value.Hence the study and redesign of reprinted typeface in screen display help promote indigenous designing,make typeface design systematic,raise the aesthetic awareness of the Chinese and meet the cultural needs of the design industry.In the age of Internet,Chinese characters should adapt to screen display as the important media of information dissemination.This thesis mainly researches the development and features screen display at present,investigates the factors that affect the readability of screen display typeface and lays the foundation for reprinted typeface.It provides a comprehensive theoretical system by analyzing specifically the visual forms of reprinted typeface.It also sheds light on the design of reprinted typeface by studying current design method of Chinese characters in screen display.At the end of the thesis some design methods of reprinted typeface in screen display are proposed after my practice of designing several reprinted typefaces.By analyzing the characteristics of digital display,this thesis focuses on ergonomics such as optical illusions and visual orientation.It studies the factors that affect the readability of screen display characters to ensure the clarity of reprinted typeface on the screen.It begins with innovating the visual forms of reprinted typeface by analyzing the form and denotation of Chinese characters on the screen;it studies the“movement representation”,“space representation” and “innovation representation” of the visual forms of reprinted typeface from the three perspectives of calligraphy aesthetics – “plainness and steepness”,“occupation and spacing” and “the form-content unity”;ultimately it concludes with the proposal of the design method of reprintedtypeface on screen display through a comprehensive study of the visual form of reprinted typeface.By adjusting the size and center,enhancing the stroke features,weighing the center of form and gravity,balancing the positive and negative space and correlating different typefaces,it renders reprinted typeface more distinctive and suitable for screen display,and therefore to make expressing simultaneously visual effects and cultural connotation possible.
