An Adaptive Study On Pragmatic Enrichment In Red Sorghum

The data of this study are the phenomena of lexical pragmatic enrichment in the novel Red Sorghum of Mo Yan.Via the in-depth analysis and discussion from the perspective of adaptation,this study aims to reveal the main strategies of lexical enrichment,laws and functions of lexical adaptation,and the relationship between degree of adaptability and textual prominence.This study mainly adopts the methods of combination of qualitative and quantitative researches,as well as the combination of inductive and deductive researches.Firstly,the examples of lexical enrichment are picked out from the novel Red Sorghum.Secondly,according to different criteria,the collected data can be divided into different parts.Finally,via the analysis of the collected data,this study makes some conclusions.This study holds that:Firstly,the phenomena of lexical enrichment pervade the novel Red Sorghum.In this novel,the realization of lexical enrichment depends on the word-choices,flexible usages of word-class and particular rhetoric means.Lexical enrichment has great influence on characters’ cultivation,environment description and plots development.The phenomena of lexical enrichment can be divided into two groups.Lexical narrowing and broadening are the significant strategies for the author to express particular information.Secondly,the word-choices making is the product of adaptation to contexts.The contexts consist of three aspects,physical factors,social factors and mental factors.The word-choices are made under the influence of three kinds of factors.The word-choices adapt to different worlds so as to express specific information.In addition,the adaptive words are mostly marked words,which have the high degree of textual prominence.These adaptive words attract the readers’ attention and contribute to forming the particular writing styles of the author.Thirdly,the word-choices making is a process of adaptation to context.In order to express the particular information,the author pays more attentions to word-choices.It demands the readers take the same efforts in interpreting.The word-choices of lexical enrichment are mostly marked words,which have the high degree of textual prominence.In the process of adaption,the adaptability of the author is inversely proportional to labor-saving of hearers.The labor-saving is in proportional to textual prominence.Therefore,the adaptability of the author is consistent with the textual prominence.In all,this study holds that the adaptability of the author is consistent with the textual prominence.This study has a practical and theoretical significance to the language learning and teaching,as well as the language interpreting and applications.
