In York,the development of city politics lay in primary stage.From 13 t h century to 15 t h century,York gradually obtained city autonomy.With the authority of king,York itself began to improve all aspects of function,and established characteristically palitical system and institution in the middle ages.In the first place,this thesis introdues external political situation of York in the middle ages.It under the church and crown,demonstrates York's legal status.Furthemore,it discusses the ralationship between the city and the church,including the relationship between the city and the crown,which illustrates these competition,compromise and cooperation.What's shown lastly is its political status at that time.In the second place,this thesis argues about the pilotical orfanisation of York.It analysis the main government institution a nd department,government officals and responsibility,what forms the city's authority consists of foundamental government organisation and civil socical organisation.In the third place,the thesis in detail explains all problems York faces in the middle ages and how government resolves these problems,which is shown by two aspects,that is internal aspect and external aspect that affect efficient government organisation.At last,it evaluates and summaries government efficiency of York.In the middle ages,with the mightiness of church and interference of crown,the development of city autonomy on some level was restricted in York,and the development of city politics was hampered which lead to some problems such as inefficiency of city authority and government organisation.O n the other hand,the government constantly widened its power with the competition between the church and the crown.Therefore,it increased city autonomy and civil consciousness freedom and democracy.Under the rule of king,the York's politics formed local autonomy in typically,which was contributed to municipal institution,the church system and civil organisation.
