A Translation Project Report Of The Reflection Of Centenarian Master Zhou Youguang

This project report is based on the translation of The Reflection of Centenarian Master Zhou Youguang,written by Zhou Youguang.Mr.Zhou Youguang,111 year-old linguist,passed away on one day after his 111 t h birthday in 2017.As the major formulator of the Chinese Pinyin Scheme,Mr.Zhou was honored as the “father of Pinyin”.During more than 110 years,he had enlightened ordinary people with his wisdom and open mind.The Reflection of Centenarian Master Zhou Youguang was published in 2014.The topics of Mr.Zhou’s book are about culture,mind,and life and reminisce.Starting from May Fourth Movement,the writer counts major historical events,cultural influence,acquaintances with different people,mystery of longevity from the late years of Q ing Dynasty till now.Mr.Zhou had lived through so many eras that his life was truly a legend.It is worthwhile to spread his positive attitudes towards life and sharp view towards special events.The Reflection of Centenarian Master Zhou Youguang is an interesting book,in which he talks about plenty of unforgettable plots and stories strive from his experience in the end of Q ing Dynasty,Beiyang Government and new C hina established in 1949.The author would like to t ranslate some selections of the book and try to retell his ingeniousness in writing.E.A.Nida’s functional equivalence theory serving as the guidance really offers great help to the project.Different translation method had been used to reach equivalence of the original text.The author wishes that readers can better understand the spirit of Mr.Zhou and its far-reaching influence.There are five chapters in this paper.The first one is the introduction to the whole translation project,which includes Mr.Zhou Youguang’s biography,education,career,contributions and historical experiences and his book The Reflection of Centenarian Master Zhou Youguang.The second chapter is about the literature review of the Chinese prose translation.Background of prose translation and analysis of translation studies and theories related will be included.Then,the writer will focus on talking about the project and case study.A specific analysis of the source text and target text will be covered,concerning contents,language features and its far-reaching significance.During case study,translation of words,idioms,names,different sentences and poem will be analyzed.The last chapter comes to conclusion,major findings and limitations and future recommendations.
