Along with the development of economic globalization of the world, communication of the various countries is increasing, and translation has become essential in the process of communication between China and foreign countries, and at the same time the requirements for translators are becoming higher and higher. This translation report is about the book “wisdom on the tongue” of Mr.Obama's speeches as the material, which contains ten pieces of Mr.Obama's classic speech, including politics, religion, employment etc..The identity of Mr.Obama's speeches leads to a certain political color. Therefore,it is required that the translator should not only convey the meaning and background of the translation, but also adjust the translation strategies and the tone of the translation according to the cultural differences between China and the United States. There are two theories applied in this report.First, the main translation method that the translator used was the “Functional Equivalence Theory”.The functional equivalence theory was proposed by Nida Eugene,an American. The so-called "functional equivalence" is that translators should achieve functional equivalence between the two languages instead of a rigid correspondence in the translation.Second, the translator also used the three principles of translation of Fan Zhongying.Fan Zhongying believes that the three principles of translation are meaning transference, acceptability and similarity, and translators should use the three principles flexibly in the process of translation. This report includes six aspects: introduction, literature review, description of task, description of process, case analysis, and summary of practice. The first four parts are the overall introduction to the translation task. The case analysis is the central part of this report, according to the practice, the translator lists many typical examples from many aspects of translation process respectively, such as the application of lexical translation, syntactic translation, and rhetoric. Finally,on the basis of case analysis, the translator makes a summary of the translation task and problems in the process of translation, and then puts forward the corresponding strategies of translation.According to the case analysis, the translator thinks that the literal translation and parallelism of rhetoric are the best choice for the translation of political speeches, the treatment of religious vocabularies is the best choice for the translation of religious speeches, and the abstract translation is the best choice for the translation of cultural speeches and so on.
