On C-E Translation Of Profiles Of Chinese Universities In Their Webpages From The Perspective Of Functionalist Translation Theory

In recent years,with the trend of globalization,international communication is more and more frequent,and the relationship is closer and closer.At the same time,the major domestic colleges and universities have established an English web page,in order to promote the comprehensive strength of the school,expand international influence,and thus attract a large number of foreign students or foreign scholars to study.English web page is an important platform for university to demonstrate its strength.The translation of English web pages is an important factor that affecting its effectiveness.The major domestic colleges and universities gradually realize the importance of English web pages and improve it.However,there are still many problems in the translation of English web pages.Due to the differences between Chinese and Western culture,values and many other factors,it is necessary for the translator to have the ability of various aspects,stand on the readers’ view as much as possible in the translation,so as to truly achieve the communicative function.In this paper,the author makes a comprehensive analysis of the problems in the column of "Introduction" of domestic university web pages and puts forward a comprehensive translation strategy.From the perspective of functionalist translation theory,this thesis studies the English translation of “school profile” in Chinese universities.Functionalist translation theory holds that translation is a purposeful activity,and different translation strategies should be adopted according to different types of texts.Translation is a communicative activity,which is the conversion between the two cultures.A qualified translator should not only retain the original text,but also translate it in the context of the target language.Functionalist translation theory plays an important role in the English translation of the university website.
