Simultaneous interpreting for TV programs is the application of interpreting to TV programs, conveying information both through sound and pictures. It's a newly emerging form of interpretation in China. Thus a further study is necessary to enhance its quality. As simultaneous interpreting for TV programs has its own unique features, interpreters have to face a lot of challenges. The core issue of this thesis, therefore,is to provide quick and accurate ways of doing simultaneous interpreting for TV programs.Interpreters have to finish a large quantity of complex sentences that contain a lot of information under great pressures within a short time.To meet with the tough task,it is important for them to be guided by the principle of syntactic linearity---the primary principle for simultaneous interpreting.A skillful application of this principle is of great help in relieving the pressure of interpreters. To achieve a better application of the syntactic-linearity principle, this thesis provides four strategies, namely, segmentation, amplification, conversion and repetition. The thesis then further analyses the application of the principle through examples of simultaneous interpreting practice for TV programs and through examples of the practice done by the author herself. The aim of this thesis is to provide theoretical support and practical experience to interpreters, helping them learn about the features of simultaneous interpreting for TV programs and grasp ways to improve its quality.
