Children's literature translation in China began in the late Qing Dynasty and the climax came around the May 4th Movement.During that period, many excellent children's works had been introduced into China, including the Aesop's Fables,Hans Christian Andersen's Fairytales and Grimm's Fairy Tales which are still popular now among children in China. In this translation report, the translator chooses a children's book Goddess of Yesterday written by American writer Caroline B.Cooney as translation material.By translating the chosen parts of this novel, the translator intends to discuss the stylistic features and the translation strategies of children's literature works under the guidance of functional equivalence theory. Both the “child-orientation” concept and Nida's functional equivalence theory attach great importance to target readers. Therefore, the translator should take into account of children's receptivity, language features and psychological features, trying to make his or her translation more easily accepted by them.Based on the ancient Greek mythology Trojan War,the book tells a story of a girl named Anaxadra—her life experience after she left her family at six as a hostage.By analyzing the stylistic features of Goddess of Yesterday, this report aims to discuss some translation strategies used in translating children's literature works under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory.I hope that I can further improve my translation ability and have a better understanding of functional equivalence theory and a better mastering of the language characteristics of children's literature translation through this practice.
