This translation report is based on an academic work International Business Law and Its Environment written by Richard Schaffer,Beverley Earle and Filiberto Agusti.During the translation,the translator found there are not only considerable legal and commercial terms,but also plenty of compound-complex and long sentences in the original book.Moreover,it covers a mass of specialized knowledge.Therefore,the translation task is challenging.Under the guidance of Li Kexing and Zhang Xinghong’ criteria of legal translation,and with the help of supervisor and by referring to dictionaries and reference books,the translator finally tackled the difficulties encountered in the translation process.The report is comprised of four chapters.Chapter One introduces the background of the translation project at length.Besides,the translator analyzes the linguistic features of the translated material.There is process description in Chapter Two,namely pre-translation preparation,schedule of the task and proofreading.In Chapter Three,the translator emphasizes on discussing the difficulties encountered in translation process.This chapter is comprised of two sections: section one gives a detailed analysis of word selection from the perspective of the lexical level;and in section two,the translator focuses on how to disassemble and restructure long,difficult sentences from the perspective of the syntactic level.Chapter Four is a concluding part,summarizing the major findings and implications of the translation task.The translator whole-heartedly hopes this report can offer guidance and inspiration for legal translation learners. |
