The material of this report is Understanding Women's Magazines: Publishing,Markets and Readerships in Late-twentieth Century Britain, written by Anna Gough-Yates and first published by Routledge in 2003.The book investigates the changing landscape of women's magazines. The author of the book focuses on the successes, failures and shifting fortunes of a number of famous magazines and the dramatic developments that have taken place in women's magazine publishing in the last two decades, and analyzes the reasons for these phenomena. This translation report can be divided into two parts. The first part is to translate the first two chapters of the source text with the help of some tools and three kinds of parallel texts, that is,Representing Women:Myths of Femininity in the Popular Media,???????????,and Feminist Media Studies(??????????).Before doing the translation practice, the author has made a translation plan and predict some problems that maybe occur in the process of translation. While doing translation, the author has searched a lot relevant background information to maintain the faithfulness and correctness of the translation. In the second part, the author mainly discussed those problems she encountered and how she dealt with them. Then the author provides some suggestions on how to solve the similar kind of problems.Through this translation practice, the author hopes to reach the following goals: on one hand,to improve the translation skills, accumulate some experiences on the use of CAT tools, and learn more about the translation features of academic research text;on the other hand, the author hopes to introduce some excellent foreign media study documents and make a little contribution to media studies exchanges at home and abroad.
