| This report describes the writer’s mock interpreting practice of a speech,entitled Smart City,one that was delivered by Rang Francois Callas,vice president of Sophia Local Government Advisory Committee in France.The writer had the pleasure of attending the meeting and recording the speech,which later became her simulated interpreting material.The report consists of four parts: task description,pre-interpreting preparation,case analysis and task summary.Task description gives an overview of the interpreting task,including background information like time and place.Pre-interpreting preparation provides an introduction to the preparations made concerning knowledge and mentality as well as prediction about some possible problems.Case analysis,which is the core of this report,offers an analysis of some problems and difficulties encountered in the task,including two major parts: first,how to take effective notes,ranging from researches on the contents,the amount of words and language used in note-taking;second,how to deal with lexical conversion between two different languages to achieve dynamic equivalent translation.In this part,the theory of dynamic equivalence from Eugene A.Nida is also mentioned.Last but not least,in the task summary part,the writer conducts a self-evaluation and summarizes some interpretation experience,which can be of some help to her interpreting study in the future. |
