| Internationalization has been a trend,in which not only trade communication but culture exchange have been give much attention.Literature,which is the best reflection of a country’s culture,has been focused in recent years.This practice report is based on Such is Life,whose target readers are Chinese,so the translator will mainly utilize Chinese language features to translate this work,with the aim of allowing more Chinese to understand foreign literature and culture.The translator will mainly adopt the translation strategy of domestication,and make the target readers the focus of attention,breaking the convention of regarding the source writer as the reference point.In other words,the translator will translate this works by taking target readers’ acknowledged thought process into consideration,in order to make the target text be more easily accepted by Chinese readers.Through the task description and analysis,it is found that,in the translation process,the subjective of the target reader should be considered throughout.Firstly,before attempting a translation,the translator should repeatedly read the source text to figure out the true intentions of the source writer;Secondly,the translator can take into consideration both the culture and language features of Such is Life;Finally the target readers’ recognition range and Chinese language features should be prioritized so that the principles of “faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance” can be adhered as much as possible.The translation techniques that utilize the domestication strategy,such as amplification and omission,division and restructuring,unpacking,transition and embedding are usally adopted except when translating expressions containing cultural references.In the latter case,literal translation,primarily,transliteration and literal translation with notes,is the best translation approach. |
