A Study On The Artistic Modeling Of Chinese Pattern Locks In The Qing Dynasty

For thousands of years, lock has been widely used in people's daily life. As a derivative of private property, it is used as a tool to guarantee safety. Under the thought of feudalism of ancient China, people 's desire for locks was no longer limited to its practical function, and it was also treated as a kind of spiritual support and expression, so it has a symbolic significance.The Qing Dynasty witnessed the end of feudal society in China and the peak period of ancient Chinese craft. As one of the four representatives of the ancient lock, the cultural connotation of pattern lock's modeling and the related traditional customs are still applicable nowadays. It is closely related to the social and cultural background of the Qing Dynasty and it stands for a typical form of Chinese art study. Therefore, this topic begins with the study of the art style of the pattern lock in the Qing Dynasty. The cultural and artistic characteristics, aesthetic implication and regional feature of pattern lock are discussed by conducting social investigation,field research and hands-on practice, visiting contemporary collectors and other ways.The origin, development trajectories and causes for decay of Chinese pattern lock are briefly introduced in the first and the second chapter of this paper. The third chapter focuses on the study of the artistic modeling of the pattern lock in the Qing Dynasty. The classification of pattern lock's theme in the Qing Dynasty is elaborated in this chapter, including animal, plant,implement,character and so on. And then after combining with the traditional Chinese auspicious culture, the traditional implication of the pattern lock and its characteristics of its modeling are analyzed and concluded specifically. On the basis of the above research, pattern lock's enlightenment on the present design and application is discussed in the fourth chapter.The fifth chapter focuses on the design practice. The web design, panel design, folding design are used as ways to popularize pattern lock and to enhance its application in the design now, so as to further inherit and develop the artistic value of Chinese pattern lock.
