A Report Of The Interpreting Practice For The Drug Smuggling Trail Of Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court

In court interpreting,due to huge differences between two languages as well as legal systems,sometimes the target language output will be affected by various factors and become inaccessible to the target readers.This gives rise to misunderstanding and misapprehension and thus the interpreters should handle the information cautiously.This report,based on the interpreting practice for the No.2 Criminal Adjuration Division of Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court by the author herself,aims to serve as a bridge between different parties involved in the drug trafficking case,and then to further analyze the importance of legal systems affecting court interpreting,and finally to provide some coping tactics that might help the interpreter better understand the legal systems applied in court interpreting.To sum up,this report intends to answer the following questions: 1)why will the failure of appropriate use of legal systems influence the target text output? 2)What are the most appropriate coping tactics that might be adopted to contribute significantly to the acceptability of the target text?Court-interpreting can be served as a bridge between different cultures and linguistics.Both Chinese-English consecutive interpreting and vice visa require the interpreter to be bounded with abundant knowledge in related areas.Therefore,court interpreters should be trained to acquire adequate knowledge about both Chinese and the Common-law legal systems.The author,by writing this report,hopes to make a modest contribution to the research about how parameters under this category affect information transmission and linguistic representation of legal discourse.
