Report On The Translation Of The Anti-drug Regulation Of Guangdong

The translation of legal documents has long been a hot topic where equivalence is probably the most problematic term concerning the translation of terminologies and long sentences in relevant translation theories.This thesis is a report on the translation of the Anti-drug Regulation of Guangdong,with its primary focus on the translation of legal terms and long sentences found therein.For the time being,this important Regulation has not yet been translated by any other persons or organizations.The author,based on her own translation of this Regulation,discusses the stylistic features of the source text and target text by referring to the functional equivalence theory,and explores translation strategies and methods for the translation of the Chinese legal terms and complicated sentences.This report is divided into four parts.The first part describes the translation task and the legal background of this translation project,and introduces the lexical as well as the grammatical features of the source text.The second part discusses the preparation of glossary and parallel corpus for the task and briefly analyzes the theory and strategies which might be of use for the analysis of this translation task.The third part is the core of this report,which first introduces the translation methods applicable to this task,then analyzes the methods of translating legal terminology and long sentences,and discusses the translation techniques for translating them with preciseness and smoothness,with examples selected from the translated version of the Regulation concerned.The last part of this report summarizes the experience and lessons the author has learned from this translation project.
