| Since the 1970 s,translation theory has witnessed new developments.The research mode based on linguistic study has been gradually transformed into cultural study.Andre Lefevere and Susan Bassnett are representatives of the group,who brought up the concept of “cultural turn”.Lefevere pointed out that translation is a rewriting of the original text,which is manipulated by three factors: ideology,patronage and poetics.Translated by American Sinologist Allan Hepburn Barr,The Seventh Day is a well-received full-length novel written by Yu Hua,which has been published in 2015 in the United States.This thesis,taking the example of The Seventh Day,intends to explore how three factors,namely ideology,patronage and poetics,influence the choice of text and translation process,so as to summarize some translation methods for the magic realism novels.Based on researches,the study makes a conclusion that on the one hand,the target text cannot avoid the influence of ideology and patronage in the target culture.In terms of poetics,the translator has provided a perfect interpretation of this “absurd and magic novel” from two perspectives,namely choice of text on the macro level and transformation from Chinese poetics to western one,conversion from indirect speech to direct one on the micro level,which emphasizes the main characters and offers some dramatic effects.On the other hand,the translator should manage to achieve a balance between completeness and unique style of the source text.Only in this way can the translation become popular in the target culture. |
