Translators' Subjectivity From The Perspective Of Meme

As indispensable participants in translation,translators undertake the mission of cultural transmission.Research on their subjectivity occupies an important position in translation study since it bears close relationship to many aspects in translation like the adoption of different translation strategies,translators' position and appreciation of translated works.Study on translators' subjectivity has undergone rather a long and complicated process.From being completely ignored due to the marginalization of translation to later being extremely exaggerated due to related views on Deconstructionism and Manipulation School,translators' subjectivity finally gain a moderate position with all-rounded and in-depth development of translation theories and practice.The thesis tries to analyze translators' subjectivity from the perspective of meme which can be seen as a unit of cultural transmission.The author applies meme-related views to both a macroscopic overview and a microscopic research on translators' subjectivity.A macroscopic research means an overview of main studies on translators' subjectivity from the perspective of meme's features.The aim is to justify the inevitability of its development trajectory.A microscopic research refers to a detailed study on translators' subjectivity based on four stages of meme replication.The aim is to present the functiona l mechanism of translators' subjectivity in the whole translation process.In addition,the author also makes a detailed analysis of several key factors that play a vital role in meme replication and transmission during translation,thus proving their importance and inevitability in deciding translators' subjectivity.The thesis draws three conclusions as follows:Firstly,there are sufficient reasons for the historical development of ideas on translators' subjectivity.Secondly,translators' considerations and their choices made during translation are necessary for successful replication and transmission of memes.Thirdly,all the key factors that affect translators' subjectivity like cultural intervention,their own aesthetic appreciation,personality and disposition as well as professional ethics can get full demonstration from the perspective of meme replication and transmission.Hopefully,the thesis can contribute some ideas to research on translators' subjectivity.And even in some way,it can promote further application and development of Meme in translation.
