A Translation Report Of The Missing Pieces Of Me(Chapter 1-Chapter 12)

This report is based on translation of The Missing Pieces of Me(chapter1-12)written by Jean Van Leeuwen who is a famous children's literature writer in America.The novel,consisting of 35 chapters,was published in September,2014 by Two Lions Press that is affiliated to Amazon.It is mainly about a 10-year-old girl named Weezie who wants to find her own father because of her mother's unfair treatment.These chapters consist of the developing part of the novel.The translation of the source text(15727 words)is finished by the translator herself under the guidance of her supervisor Professor Zhang Junjie.In this report,the translator firstly gives the background of the translation project,introduction of the source material and the requirements of the translation project.Based on analysis of the source text,the translator decides to adopt Nida's functional equivalence as the guiding theory in translation.In the process of translation,the translator combines theory with practice,trying as hard as possible to make the target readers gain the same feeling as the source language readers do.This report shows that although children's literary works are easy in grammar and vocabulary,it is still difficult to produce excellent translation.The reason is that children's literary works have their own features that are very different from other kinds of literary works.The translation should not only be concise and easy to understand,but also be interesting.So only one with a childlike innocence,can he or she produce an excellent translation.This translation project plays a significant role during the translator's study as a student of MTI.Through this translation project,the translator has a deeper understanding of translation and makes a progress in combing practice with theory.At last,the translator hopes that this translation project can make some contributions to the translation of children's literary works.
